Root canal treatment is a dental procedure which
involves treating infection in the centre of the tooth.

All teeth have a nerve supply which enables us to sense pain, pressure, hot and cold. The nerve is contained in the core of the tooth extending into canals which are based in the roots of the teeth.  If this nerve supply is affected through tooth decay, trauma or gum disease it can result in the nerve becoming exposed and infected which can result in pain. This is the tooth’s way of telling us something is wrong. However, this can also make it difficult to eat, drink and sleep.

At one time, your tooth would have required extracting under similar circumstances, but now we can save affected teeth and keep your smile natural for even longer.

Below are some signs that you may require a root canal treatment:

  • Pain when biting or chewing.
  • A dull ache from a tooth.
  • Over-sensitivity to hot and cold consumables.
  • Swollen gum tissue.
  • Facial swelling.

Modern dental technology has made root canal treatments both routine and stress-free, so even anxious patients can decide to keep their teeth in healthy shape. If endodontic therapy is recommended in your case, our dentist will explain the procedure in detail so that you know what to expect. Usually after root canal treatment, a crown or onlay is advised to protect the tooth from fracturing.

Dr Darshan Shukla is particularly efficient and highly skilled at delivering
root canal treatments with a very high success rate.
